Christopher B. Jackson: “Immortal”
27.3-6.9.2026

The “Immortal” exhibition explores material boundaries, self-consciousness and existence. Dr Christopher B. Jackson (b. 1980) examines presence, permanence, and transformation. In both science and art, the forces of evolution and immortality are mutually exclusive and inherently discordant.

For the exhibition, Jackson had his DNA extracted, analyzed, and then systematically translated and algorithmically recode. The artist’s body has been deconstructed and recomposed: cells are replicated indefinitely; microorganisms and chemical traces have been sealed in stasis.

The artist’s presence materializes in his immortalized cells, which grow indefinitely in culture.  The empty chair is an invitation to dialogue with this existence. The artwork reflects immortality and the containment of self, presenting a deconstructionist approach to existence where human embodiment being is the sole defining identity.

In the artwork ”Ecce Homo #2”, DNA sequences of the artist’s genetic code have been systematically translated and algorithmically recoded into silk-printed coloured dot arrays. The four nucleotides of DNA (A, G, C, and T) are rendered in the printing language of per-nucleotide grayscale.

The artworks are not mere representation but an embodiment of being without a beyond. By reconfiguring and staging a fundamental drift between order and disarray, Dr Christopher Jackson reveals the inherent essence of evolution and life: mind and matter are inseparable – in fact, they are the same.

The exhibition consists of photographs, silkscreen artworks, and installations.
